One of the best restaurants in London in terms of fusion: The restaurant name is French. The head chef - Jerome Tauvron - is French. And the food. well, the food is French-ish. In fact, it's high-end French with Asian flavours, which means the likes of foie gras with beetroot juice and tamarind tempura, or lobster ravioli with lemon grass. What sets it apart from most fusion cooking is the fact that Tauvron knows when to stop - mixing hemispheres when it works, but keeping them apart when it doesn't; there are classic French dishes on the menu here as well as a sashimi platter that is pure Japan. Either way, it all goes down a storm with the discerning Kensington locals who regularly pack out the muted grey and lilac dining room. After dinner, head for the labyrinthine Opal bar in the basement where the clubby (if slightly Sloaney) vibe is fuelled by creative cocktails and a smooth DJ soundtrack.
