North African- Mourad Mazouz's 'restaurant familial,' one of few good North African restaurants in London, has been open for over a decade now. Not that you'd know it. It seemed like only yesterday that Madonna booked the restaurant for Guy Ritchie's birthday bash - proof that this North African diner has lost none of its rock'n'roll appeal. The menu is a mix of traditional couscous dishes and tagines, and modern Maghrebi-influenced cuisine, and it's as good as anything you'll find in Marrakech. But at Momo you also get eye-candy staff, a pulsating atmosphere, a hip and hypnotic 'arabesque' soundtrack - not to mention a fabulous interior (with carved wood screens, brass lanterns and louche, low-level seating) that hints at orient excess without looking like the Disney set for Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. The trendy Kemia bar in the basement is members-only (although you can have a drink there before your meal and you can book for live music on Monday and Tuesday evenings) while the Mo Tea Rooms next door offers pastries, mint tea and the chance to buy your very own tagine.
